Laticia Hicks for School Board District 7

In 2018, for the first time in Anne Arundel County, citizens will have the opportunity to choose their representatives on the Board of Education.

Non-Partisan Election | General Election: Nov 6, 2018

I am running for the AACPS Board of Education-District 7 to be the voice of the community, students, & teachers as we work to strengthen our school system.

I am an educator, mother, and citizen with a stake in this community who wants to work for your families. As a product of a public school system, I understand the importance of a strong public education and the positive impact effective governance practices can have on teachers, students, and the community. Because of my more than twenty-two years as a federal law enforcement officer and my experience as an English as a second language (ESL) teacher, I am uniquely positioned to bring effective leadership to the Board of Education.

I believe that our children deserve an education that will set them up for success by

  1. Increasing our investment in public schools
  2. Recruiting and retaining qualified teachers
  3. Smaller class sizes
  4. Accessible programs and services to meet the needs of all students
As a school board member, I will dedicate my time and energy to doing what is best for the students of Anne Arundel County and the school system as a whole. I look forward to bringing new energy and leadership to help move forward policies that work to strengthen our public schools.

“This is the value of the teacher, who looks at a face and says there's something behind that and I want to reach that person, I want to influence that person, I want to encourage that person, I want to enrich, I want to call out that person who is behind that face, behind that color, behind that language, behind that tradition, behind that culture. I believe you can do it. I know what was done for me.”

I have been an active volunteer in my community for years. Two of my sons (ages eleven and nine) attend Crofton Middle and Crofton Meadows Elementary (CMES) where I served as the Vice President of Membership for the CMES PTO. My eldest son serves in the United States Army.

I hold a B.A. in criminology with a minor in political science from the University of Miami, a M.P.A. and certificate in HR policy and management from Florida International University, and a M.A. in education from New Jersey City University.
